HARRISBURG – A project in Upper Saucon Township has been awarded funding through the Multimodal Transportation Fund by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) at its meeting today according to Representative Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh, Northampton and Montgomery) and Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Senator Pat Browne (R-Lehigh), who collaborated to secure the grant.

Upper Saucon was awarded $1,000,000 for improvements to the intersection of Passer Road and Route 309. This will include the construction of new turning lanes, widening, upgraded traffic signals, and ADA compliant sidewalk installation. These improvements will allow for the eventual construction of a new Wawa gas station and other development.

“We appreciate the efforts of Senator Browne and Representative Simmons to secure the funding necessary to make this project happen. This is great news for the residents of Upper Saucon Township. This funding will both boost our local economy and provide for significant improvements to a busy intersection,” said Dennis Benner, Chairman of the Upper Saucon Township Board of Supervisors.
“I am tremendously pleased to have helped secure the funding for this important project,” Representative Simmons said. “Senator Browne and I are committed to advocating for local projects like this that will improve life in the district and promote job creation and economic growth for years to come.”

“Route 309 is one of the most heavily trafficked roadways in Lehigh County,” Senator Browne said. “Providing for significant upgrades to this intersection will pay tremendous dividends in both safety and unlocking the surrounding area’s potential for appropriate development.”

The CFA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth to administer Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages. The CFA holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania's economic growth. The CFA awards the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund grants, which aim to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth.
