HARRISBURG – Working to preserve the natural heritage of the 131st Legislative District, Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) announced today that the Wildlands Conservancy in Lehigh County received a state grant of $500,000 from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

This funding will go toward the acquisition of approximately 168 acres in Salisbury and Upper Saucon townships for the creation of a new preserve; and the protection of approximately 19 acres in Upper Saucon Township in the form of a land donation.

“I’m incredibly pleased that the conservancy will benefit from these necessary funds,” Simmons said. “This funding will assist the conservancy to expand public access and help conserve precious natural habitat areas.”

DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation builds connections between citizens and the outdoors by providing funding and technical assistance support for local recreation and park improvement projects through its Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants.
