Simmons Receives Committee Assignments for 2013-14 Session
1/15/2013
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today announced that he has been appointed by Speaker of the House Sam Smith (R-Jefferson/Armstrong/Indiana) to serve on the House Education, Health, Insurance and State Government committees during the 2013-14 legislative session.

“I want to thank Speaker Smith for naming me to these important committees,” said Simmons. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on legislation that will improve the lives of the people of Pennsylvania.”

The Education Committee primarily assists with education issues, legislation, policy development and constituent requests across the entire educational spectrum, both public and private, encompassing K-12 basic education, as well as higher education.

The Health Committee works on health-related issues and legislation, ranging from autism and drug and alcohol programs to mental retardation and organ donation.

The Insurance Committee has jurisdiction over state-related insurance laws, health care reform, life insurance, real estate title insurance, long-term care insurance, medical malpractice insurance programs, and property and casualty insurance.

The State Government Committee considers government reform proposals as well as legislation that deals with election laws, procurement law, Open Records Act, Sunshine Law, Public Officials and Employee Ethics Act, and the conveyance or leasing of state-owned property.

“I am especially pleased to have been named to the State Government Committee,” said Simmons. “Changing how Pennsylvania government operates has always been one of my priorities. We need to be more efficient in how taxpayer dollars are spent and more responsive to the concerns of our citizens. I welcome the challenge that lies ahead in accomplishing those goals.”
