Simmons: Wolf Tried to Hold the Commonwealth Hostage
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s line-item veto of the General Assembly’s latest budget compromise:

“Today, Gov. Wolf did what he should have done back in June. He is using his line-item veto power to cut about $6 billion in spending from the budget proposal we sent to him last week. The other $23 billion included in the budget will be signed into law.

“Our governor basically tried to hold the Commonwealth hostage so he could impose a tax increase on every working Pennsylvanian. That is shameful.

“While progress was made today, we still have work to do to complete the budget. I will continue to be a ‘no’ vote on any tax increases this governor demands to complete the budget.”

The General Assembly sent House Bill 1460 to the governor’s desk on Dec. 24. The $30.26 billion spending plan funds state government’s core functions and supports Pennsylvania students by increasing education funding to the highest levels in the Commonwealth’s history – without the need for massive tax hikes.
