Simmons and Mensch Co-Host Town Hall Meeting on Local Police Issue
9/21/2016
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) and Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24) on Monday co-hosted a town hall meeting at Upper Perkiomen High School for residents and business owners of East Greenville Borough and Pennsburg Borough.

The purpose of the town hall was to allow constituents to voice their concerns regarding East Greenville Borough’s recent decision to withdraw from the Upper Perkiomen Police District. The event drew more than 360 attendees.

Twenty-six individuals from the two communities spoke and all identified their desire to keep East Greenville Borough in the Upper Perkiomen Police District. The comments were recorded by a stenographer and captured by a videographer.

“In light of the security concerns around our country right now, and after hearing the outcry from my constituents at the meeting, I will be supporting their efforts to keep East Greenville Borough in the Upper Perkiomen Police District,” said Simmons. “Several constituents with health issues, whose doors I have knocked on in the past year, came up to me in tears at the town hall. They informed me that keeping East Greenville Borough in the Upper Perkiomen Police District is literally the difference between life and death for them. I cannot in good conscience turn my back on them.”

“This decision regarding the Upper Perkiomen Police District is a serious matter that has many residents concerned,” said Mensch. “After hearing the many positive comments, I will be supporting the residents’ efforts to keep East Greenville Borough in the Upper Perkiomen Police District.”

Simmons and Mensch will provide Pennsburg Borough and East Greenville Borough with a copy of the comments and videotape of the town hall.

“It will be up to the boroughs to decide whether they want to respond to the transcribed comments and video,” said Mensch. “The boroughs have jurisdiction over this matter.
