Simmons Announces State Grant for Emmaus Public Library
3/9/2017
HARRISBURG –The Emmaus Public Library has been awarded a $500,000 state grant through the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) announced today. Simmons wrote a letter to Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera in support of the library’s grant application.

“Library patrons will greatly benefit from the improvements that are planned for this cornerstone of the Emmaus community,” said Simmons. “The library has done an outstanding job with its donation efforts over the last several years, raising $500,000, which is being matched by the Keystone Grant.”

The funding will go toward the construction of a wing to house the library’s youth and young adult book collection, as well as add ADA-compliant restrooms and a ramp.

“We are pleased to accept the Keystone Grant on behalf of our patrons and the communities we serve,” said Library Director Amy Resh. “The funds will be used to expand our footprint; creating new and innovative young adult and children’s spaces, a community display and art gallery, as well as room to expand our ever-growing adult resources. The Friends of Emmaus Public Library will also benefit by having a permanent space for the book sale. Many thanks to all in our communities who supported our grant application. We are looking forward to creating the next chapter in our library’s story.”

A total of 27 libraries statewide were awarded $5.9 million in funding.

The Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund was established in 1993 by the General Assembly. The Department of Education, through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries Bureau of Library Development, administers the public library portion of the program, which is funding from a portion of the state’s realty transfer tax.
