Coopersburg Awarded State Grant for Main Street Improvement Project, Says Simmons
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) announced that the Borough of Coopersburg, Lehigh County, was awarded state funding in the amount of $622,287 to be used for further improvements to Main Street (State Route 2045). Simmons played a key role in helping to secure the grant.

“I support this project 100 percent and am pleased it was approved for funding,” said Simmons. “Once completed, it will make Main Street safer for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians alike, and help to enhance the community’s quality of life.”

Specifically, the funding will go toward the completion of streetscape, traffic, bicycling and pedestrian upgrades, including ADA-compliant pedestrian crosswalks at three key intersections; and 0.16 miles of curb, sidewalk, pedestrian lighting, signs and pavement markings.

The Coopersburg improvements were one of 42 projects in communities statewide that were awarded $49 million in funding through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The fund was established by Act 89 of 2013 to stabilize financial support for ports and rail freight, increase aviation investments, establish dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and allow targeted funding for priority investments in any mode.
