State Grants Awarded for Recreational Improvement Projects in 131st District, Says Simmons
HARRISBURG – State grants totaling $567,900 have been awarded to two entities to fund recreational improvement projects in the 131st Legislative District, according to Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton).

Simmons played a key role in securing a $45,000 grant for Emmaus Borough through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) that will go toward the preparation of a comprehensive recreation, park and greenway plan.

“Emmaus offers nine borough parks for the enjoyment of its residents and surrounding community,” said Simmons. “Even though the borough’s park and recreation board successfully operates the park system, the conditions and uses of the facilities need to be assessed, improved and updated accordingly. I am pleased the funding was approved for this comprehensive plan, which will provide direction toward that goal.”

In addition, Wildlands Conservancy Inc. was awarded three grants, including $313,000 for the acquisition of 45 acres in Salisbury and Upper Saucon townships for an addition to the South Mountain Preserve, $168,000 for the acquisition of 45 acres in Lower Macungie and Upper Milford townships for an addition to the Reimert Memorial Bird Haven, and $41,900 for the acquisition of 18 acres in Upper Milford and Upper Saucon townships for connection to the South Mountain Greenway.

DCNR awarded a total of $50 million for 280 projects across Pennsylvania that will create new recreational opportunities, conserve natural resources and help revitalize local communities.
