Simmons Announces Committee Assignments for 2019-20 Session
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today announced that he has been appointed to serve on the House Human Services, Insurance, Liquor Control and Urban Affairs committees for the 2019-20 legislative session. Simmons was sworn into office for another term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Jan. 1.

“I am pleased to be serving on these committees in particular because they develop legislation designed to improve the lives of Pennsylvania residents or to benefit their communities,” said Simmons. “I look forward to getting started.”

The Human Services Committee has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, including legislation related to the opioid epidemic. The committee examines the delivery of human services and the challenges faced by individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, along with those needing mental health services and drug and alcohol treatment.

The Insurance Committee has jurisdiction over state-related insurance laws, health care reform, life insurance, real estate title insurance, long-term care insurance, medical malpractice insurance programs, and property and casualty insurance.

The Liquor Control Committee is responsible for issues relating to the administration of alcoholic beverage licenses and the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

As a member of the Urban Affairs Committee, Simmons will be involved in issues affecting the state’s cities including housing; urban redevelopment; economic development; land use planning and zoning; growth management; infrastructure financing; and city services such as police, fire, sewage and water.
