Two Area Transportation Projects Receive Funding, Says Simmons
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) announced that Coopersburg and Lower Saucon Township were awarded state funding for transportation infrastructure improvement projects.

“These are great examples of how state and local officials can work together to fix our aging roads and bridges,” said Simmons. “I wholeheartedly support both projects, which will help to enhance the safety of motorists and pedestrians in those communities.”

Coopersburg Borough was awarded $1.2 million that will go toward additional traffic, bicycling and pedestrian upgrades to Main and East State streets, including ADA-compliant crosswalks at two key intersections; and 0.11 miles of curb, sidewalk, pedestrian lighting, signs and pavement markings.

Lower Saucon Township received $219,640 to replace Lower Saucon Road Bridge, a two-lane, culvert-style span.

The local improvements were two of 50 projects in 23 counties that were awarded $44.5 million through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. Established by Act 89 of 2013, the fund is used to stabilize financial support for ports and rail freight, increase aviation investments, establish dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and allow targeted funding for priority investments in any mode.
