State Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today officially recognized the achievements of the PIAA Class 2A Champion Salisbury High School Boys Swimming and Diving Team on the floor of the House of Representatives. Simmons was joined by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Berks) for the brief ceremony, which included the presentation of two House citations.

In March, the Falcons made history at the state championship meet at Bucknell University when they became the first Salisbury squad in any sport to capture a team state title. The dramatic victory was not decided until the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, when the team of Jon Anderson, Garrett Collins, Tim Costantini and Eric Tatum finished first. Going into the relay event, Salisbury trailed Bellefonte Area by a single point.

“It was truly an honor to recognize this fine group of high school athletes for their historic victory,” said Simmons. “First-year head coach Jason Reinhard and his assistants, Jim Hersh and Alex Dapewicz, are commended as well for their dedication and leadership, which inspired the boys to do their best. The Falcons’ accomplishments in the pool have made the Lehigh Valley proud and it was a privilege to host them at the Capitol to receive the accolades they so wholeheartedly deserve.”

“We are all very proud of the accomplishments of this outstanding group of young men,” said Mackenzie. “The team achieved their championship title through hard work, great coaching, and unwavering support from its family and friends. It was a privilege to have the team with us on the floor of the House today to showcase the quality of the young people we have in our region.”

A group of supporters, which included parents and school officials, accompanied the team on the trip to Harrisburg.
