Simmons to Host Radon Seminar
COOPERSBURG – State Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) is teaming with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to host an informational seminar on radon this Thursday, Dec. 1, from 6-7:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Upper Saucon Township building, 5500 Camp Meeting Road, Center Valley.

“We were reminded of the dangers of radon last month when a home in southern Lehigh County showed a radon level of more than 6,100 picocuries per liter, the highest level ever recorded in the state,” said Simmons. “While radon is colorless and odorless, it is radioactive and a leading cause of lung cancer that can enter a building through cracks in a foundation or other openings.”

As part of their presentation, DEP representatives will be handing out free radon testing kits, which are the only way to know if a home, school, workplace or other structure has elevated levels of radon. Kits will be made available to the first 100 people who attend the seminar.

In the spirit of helping the community, anyone attending the seminar may also bring non-perishable canned food items to support both the Open Link and Angel Network. Residents of the 131st District can also drop off donations to these organizations through Thursday, Dec. 22, at Simmons’ district offices.
